I would like to share a best practice of Intel with you today regarding their supply chain management. Intel organizes a Supplier Day on a yearly basis and invites its equipment and material suppliers to talk about their business relation and Intel’s expectations. Such a supplier Day is also useful to discuss about existing partnerships but also to initiate cooperation.

It is a great honor being selected as a finalist for a global internal communications award: The Circle Awards. Every year we have internal awards to recognize HP communication teams from across the corporation that have delivered excellence in communications. At this point I would like to congratulate my colleague Ewa Lis and her team who won the Circle Award for her Green Week in Poland this year. Well done!

Today I am reporting on a fantastic opportunity that was offered to me and one of my American colleagues. As part of the career development programme at HP, HP offers employees to take on “stretch assignments”. These are projects which offer additional experience and provide new insights and learning opportunities by taking HP employees beyond their current responsibilities and skills. I have been offered the opportunity to manage one of HP’s major social investment flagship programmes in the Asia Pacific region. The programme focuses on Microenterprise Development. I will manage it remotely from Europe while my American colleague stays in Singapore for 2 months to manage the day-to-day work for social investments.

My name is Catherine Martial and I am in charge of Direct Take Back activities (ie activities where HP is directly involved in the collection of used IT equipment) and the implementation of the EU WEEE directive at HP France. I would like to tell you about our latest recycling event which is also a best practice for our social investment activities in France. As a company, we aim to align our social investment programmes with our core business and competencies and focus specifically on economic development and education and environment.

I joined HP in 1998 and I am the global program manager for supply chain energy: directing programs to create transparency of energy use in the supply chain and to work with our suppliers to reduce the overall carbon footprint. I am part of the Global Social and Environmental Responsibility (SER) Operations team at HP, who champion programs to implement SER policy into HP’s products and supply chain, from design and materials through manufacturing, distribution, and end-of-life.

After a very busy week in the US, I am writing to share highlights from the 2008 HP Technology for Teaching Worldwide Higher Education Conference. The conference was held in San Diego (La Jolla), USA on Feb 18th -19th and was the biggest convening of worldwide higher education grantees HP Social Investment has ever hosted. This conference was a great opportunity to meet faculties from around the world who are similarly engaged in using HP technology to transform teaching and learning. The conference featured two days of exciting presentations, workshops, and opportunities for professional networking, and poster sessions that illustrated the individual projects of the universities.
