» Memristor on National Public Radio

HP Senior Fellow Stan Williams was on National Public Radio's  Science Friday show yesterday talking about the memristor.

As you'll recall, Stan and his team in the
Information and Quantum Systems Lab solved the decades-old mystery of the memristor, or memory resistor, proving its existence as the fourth basic element of an integrated circuit (along with the tktk)

The researchers, Stan says, are already building circuits with this device, which could make it possible to develop nonvolatile RAM and synaptic circuits.

Stan explains this a lot better than I do. The  NPR  podcast is about 14 minutes.

» Got research? Call for proposals

HP Labs issued a call for research proposals from the academic community today so I took the opportunity to chat with Rich Friedrich, who directs our Open Innovation Office in charge of strategic university, business and government collaborations.

He talks about how he hopes to team with some of the brightest minds in the world to build a Research 2.0 community -- a community that combines universities, industry and government to solve the most pressing problems of today and to set the agenda for the future.

» Memristor mystery revisited: Your questions answered

The story I published last week about HP Labs' proof of the memristor as a fourth basic circuit element has generated (so far) nearly 600 reader responses, 50 written comments, lots of blog posts – and many, many questions.

I've gone back to the researchers for some answers.

17 memristors in a row
