Printing Elegant Invitations

Party Invitation in Embossed Pocket

How can they possibly outdo themselves this year?
When I opened my invitation to this year’s annual department holiday party, I found this elegant card, beautifully inkjet printed and embellished with ribbon by my friends Lisa & Kalli. They gracefully agreed to share their creativity here with the LizzPrints community.

Holidays are busy times, and it just isn’t an option for most of us to make all of our cards by hand. So combining classy store-bought blank stationery with personal finishing touches can be a great way to go.

“We really wanted an elegant look this year.”

Single Printed Card

Lisa & Kalli started on their quest for elegance with a Google search for inspiration: “holiday invitations”. They carefully checked out all quarter million hits … (just kidding) After checking out a few of the on-line catalogues, they came to paperdirect.com, and (ta da!) found what they were looking for, printable cards with pre-punched holes for ribbon embellishment and embossed gold paper pockets. They ordered on-line.

The 5 inch x 7 1/8 inch cards came as 2 per letter-sized sheet, with perforated margins. Kalli, a PowerPoint guru, created a landscape layout of 2 identical side-by-side text boxes, previewing the alignment of her centered text relative to the blank cards by printing on vellum first. Nice trick. (Preview printing on plain paper and holding up to light against the blanks also works.) She then printed stacks of 28 letter-sized sheets at a time with her HP PS 2575 All-in-One printer. (“Presentation mode” settings: Best quality, letter size paper, Other Brochure paper type)

Monotype Corsiva font, 14 pt., gave the invitation text a formal look (click on the photo of a single printed card to see a larger version).

Another nice personal touch was their selection and use of an alternate store-bought ribbon to the ribbon shipped with the cards. The black and gold color and texture contrasts were stunning.

Many thanks, Lisa and Kalli.

What if you want to print single invitation cards?

In your word processing or page design software application, use Page Set-up to set the page size to 5 x 7 1/8. Type in your invitation text and select font style, size and color for the look you want.

Tips for Printing Single Invitations

1. Single cards can be printed using a Custom paper size setting of 5 inch width and 7.125 inch length, plain paper type and printing in Portrait orientation.

2. Since these invitation cards are close in size to standard 5 inch x 8 inch index cards, I also printed single cards on an older printer by selecting print settings for this index card paper size, plain paper type and Portrait orientation.

I hope you give printed invitations a try and make new designs in your own personal style!
